It had been on one of her more lengthy journeys that she had first heard the voices. Distant at first, but after only a few days, Brianne knew it was not just her imagination. It was on that day she had been walking down the deserted beach of Allitaria, that Gabriel, Guardian Angel of Waters, drew her into a wondrous embrace.
Bri’s bright blues cast to the East and to the West, searching for the source of the voice calling to her. Finally, her eyes cast to the ocean before her, and taking a step closer, she was afraid someone might be drowning. Fearing the worst for whoever it was, she ran down the beach towards the waters, dropping her pack onto the uneven sand. Upon reaching the water, however, she saw no sign of any living creature, but each time the water withdrew to the seas, she heard the voice calling to her.
With nothing to lose by a good, healthy swim, she pulled those blonde locks back over her ears and dove into the next waves that came ashore. Her eyes opening beneath the water, she saw something unexpected – a golden sparkling in the water, just a hint of it there as she watched, the shimmer of it flowing in what seemed to be a trail.
Her mind recalled the tale of Hansel and Gretel, at once thinking this may be a trap, but curiosity pushed that negative thought right away. Going to the surface for air, she took a deep breath and plunged back down, feet kicking hard to follow the golden path.
With each breath gone, she returned to the water’s roof, finally reaching the place where instead of going East, West, or South, the twinkling was leading her straight down into the deep. Treading water as she prepared herself, her eyes looked around, searching to see how far she had swum. Blues casting everywhere, there was no land to be seen, no life at all. It was simply Bri and the water and sky. No birds flew over; no fish splashed; it was nothingness. Spooked as she was by this, her body and mind told her she really had not swum that far. No where else to go it seemed, see took a deep breath and dropped back into the water.
She swam hard and fast, not seeing where the trail stopped ahead of her. Rounding a jutting out piece of coral, the golden twinkling could be seen emanating from a small patch of the greenest kelp. Her breath feeling almost gone, she wanted to get whatever was in the plant, but needed also to return to the surface. Feeling to come back was best, she kicked her legs to go upwards and was stopped by her head slamming into an invisible wall. Feet coming up, she felt the smooth wall above her, trapping her down in the ocean waters.
Panic coming over her, she punched at the wall a few times, fists throbbing before she turned and pushed off the wall towards the kelp patch, thrusting her hands into it and pulling forwards the object that was the treasure at the end of the rainbow. She blinked, blues seeing that it was just a simply clamshell - larger than normal perhaps, but nothing really seemed that out of the ordinary with it.
Just as she was observing it though, she began to cough, taking in a mouthful of water and choking, believing this was to be the end of her. As she was looking up towards the surface, wishing at least to die watching the light dancing there, the gently lips of another came over her own, that voice in her head telling her to breath. Doing as she was bidden, she felt fresh air filling her lungs as she could breath. Getting a full breath once more, her blues looked to see her savior.
It was a maiden so lovely, she could not be real. Hair of silver flowed around her body down to her fish tail of glistening silver and blue scales, but never seeming to be in her way as she swam about Brianne, speaking to her.
You are the chosen one, the one who will be a soldier for us, Miss Brianne Atlantis Alcinoos. You are to be our body in the physical realm. Her voice was so soft and yet serene. Brianne couldn’t help but stare at the beauty before her. I am one of the Guardian Angels. I am Gabriel, Guardian Angel of Waters.
Brianne could only bow her head, both hands clasping the clam shell before her as she listened, having no idea what to say in response to that. The Guardian before her laughed merrily at Brianne’s silence. She came forward and encircled her arms about Brianne’s waist, pulling her close and hugging her as a lover would.
The shell you hold is a gift from me. Take it and do with it as you will. Just never forget that you are now ours, Miss Alcinoos. Now and Forever. Her quiet words spoken, the Angel brushed two fingers along Bri’s chin, raising her head up and pressing her lips against the woman’s. Bri felt her self of self fading and finally blacking out all together.

The sun fading in the sky, hues of reds and purples colored it now. Sand was encrusted all up the back of her body. Slowly sitting up, her right hand opened to see the clamshell still tightly clasped there. There was so much confusion, so little she suddenly felt she knew.
Getting to her feet, still unsteady, she took two steps before falling over some fish bones, cutting her hand on a shell, and the gift of the Angel falling away. The red ran down her hand and wrist in a small rivulet. Wiping it on her pants, she stood once more, reaching out to retrieve the clamshell, but before she touched it, a warmth fell over her hand, the cut slowly sewing itself back together, faster as her hand drew closer. When it was held once again, the cut was fully healed as though she had never fallen.
Shaking her head a bit, she moved to the waters, pulling out some seaweed from this ocean before walking up the sand. Another night was spent on the beach, sitting about a fire while her thoughts turned this way and that. Her body kept busy while working to dry the seaweed, braiding it, and finally using it to create a band for the shell. Content that it would hold, the clamshell bearing the Angel Gabriel’s symbol was placed in a small pouch. The pouch would be sent to the Healer’s Administration for their use as they saw fit.
The gift should be used and not wasted, but Brianne wished no part of what she only felt was cold-hearted manipulation.
